A TV series is completely different from feature films that are generally complete within a short period of 120 minutes. Hence, writing a script for a TV series is also different altogether. While a film script is compact and fast paced, a TV series script relies more on the characters and the way things happen with them. They way the characters react to different scenarios they are made to face makes a TV series keep going. Hence, a complete documentation of the characters, their complete, the theme of the storyline must be maintained. This documentation, in industry terms, is known as the bible.

The process of building a bible is a hectic one and is sometimes more crucial than the script itself. A TV series generally rolls on for several episodes, divided over seasons. Hence, the director or editor might need to refer to the bible in addition to the script for betting portrayal of the character. In this report, we will describe the steps to create a bible for a TV series.

1.The concept of the series must be noted at the beginning. The concept is basically what matters for a TV series, as scripts are small and many for each episode. The main theme is what matters for the scriptwriter to follow. Viewers would look for variety in episodes, while wanting the characters to maintain the continuity of the series. The continuity can be achieved through regular reference to the main concept.

2.The location and the time period for the series must be mentioned. The script might move ahead with time, which makes it important for the writer to document this change, and the changes it brings in the characters. A series might be showcased on more than one location, portraying different characters, which makes it important to observe the location in the bible.

3.The biography of the characters must be written down. Most of the characters are continuing characters, hence beside their physical and social traits, a gist of what they want and how they would achieve their goals should also be written. The interactions and relationships between the characters must also be mentioned.

4.On an episode basis, the actions and the conflicts taking place centering the characters must be written. It could be vague and pertain to first few episodes of the series. Generally, such entries are done season-by-season.

5.Certain sample stories must also be mentioned in a single paragraph for future scriptwriters to understand the flow and rhythm of the original script.
